On a bitter cold April 29 that felt more like March 29, the Hawks dropped a 13-9 home game to Atholton. The Raiders jumped to a 9 run lead in the first inning, picked up 2 more in the second, 1 in the sixth, and 3 in the seventh. Steve Merson went 4 for 5 for the Raiders and Matt Ravelle pitched a nice game. The Hawks picked up 2 in the bottom of the first when Ben Trapuzzano tripled and scored on a Dan Konapelsky ground out. Brian Heinz then singled, moved to second and third on wild pitches and scored on a Bryan Bednarczyk single. River Hill picked up 2 more in the fourth. Ken Gilliam singled, moved to second on Dave Marquart's sacrifice bunt, and scored on an outfield error on Jeff Marquart's fly ball. In the seventh inning, Curt Gilliam drew a walk, Shawn Ward, hitting for Heinz, singled, then Greg Roach reached first on a fielder's choice, but the rally fell short when Scott Curtin hit a screamer-- but right at the third baseman! Ben Trapuzzano, working 5 innings in relief, pitched well. |
