River Hill continued its winning ways by defeating a scrappy Wilde Lake team on a warm April 24th day at home. Starter Mike Anton threw a gem, giving up just 2 runs on 7 scattered hits over 6 innings. Even more impressive was Mike's 14 strikeouts and only 3 walks. Mike had mastery of all his pitches and kept the Wildcats off balance all afternoon. Jeff Marquart came on to close things out in the seventh. Jeff struck out one and picked a runner off first to end the game. Wilde Lake scored once in the first on two hits, once in the sixth, and twice in the seventh. Wilde Lake's starter, who threw mostly curve balls, held the Hawks at bay through 3 innings, escaping a bases loaded, no outs second inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Brian Bednarczyk singled, Wes McCoy was hit by a pitch, and Justin Bilohlavek hit into a fielder's choice with Wes being forced out at second. Steve Cornelius was then hit by a pitch and Dave Marquart drove in Brian and Justin with a single. Four more Hawks sailed home in the fifth when Ben Trapuzzano led off the inning with a single, followed by a Dan Konapelsky single. Brian Heinz drove in Ben with a looping opposite field single. Bednarczyk then hit his third single of the game to drive in Konapelsky. Wes McCoy picked up the next RBI when Heinz came in from third on a sacrifice fly. Bednarczyk made it four, scoring from third on a wild pitch. |
