River Hill splits two with Long Reach

When visiting Long Reach came to River Hill on April 19, the first order of business was completing a 13-13 time game that darkness stalled after 6 innings back on March 22 at Long Reach. Even though the game was being played at River Hill, the Hawks came up first in the top of the seventh. With one out, Brian Heinz hit a ground ball, which was bobbled by the second baseman, and then a muffed throw to first that went out of bounds sent Brian to second. On a pitch that bounced off Long reach catcher, Jason Scott's glove, Brian slid into third ahead of Scott's throw. Justin Bilohlavek put down a safety squeeze bunt that scored Heinz. That single run proved enough, as Kevin Marrie, after a thunder and lightning delay, shut down Long Reach in the bottom of the seventh.

By the time the second game started, the sky had cleared but it was the Lightning on the field that dictated the pace of the game. In the top of the first, Long Reach crossed home plate 7 times on 5 hits and 2 walks. The Lightning struck for 3 more in the second, one in the third, and 5 in the fifth. In all, Long Reach scored 16 runs on 16 hits. By contrast, the Hawk's bats were quiet. Singles by Steve Cornelius and Dave Marquart, plus a nice double by Justin Bilohlavek produced two runs for River Hill. Only lead off hitter, Ben Trapuzzano, came to the plate for 3 at bats. The Hawks hit a lot of hard balls, but almost always at somebody.
