Hawks drop 6-2 game to Atholton

Quiet bats and a shaky first inning spelled a 6-2 loss on April 8 at Atholton. River Hill jumped out to a 2 run first inning when Ben Trapuzzano reached first on an infield error and stole second. Dan Konapelsky was out on a hard grounder to first. Brian Heinz hit a roller to the pitcher, who thought about throwing to third to get the advancing Trapuzzano, but by the time he gave up on that idea and threw to first, Heinz beat the throw. Heinz then stole second, and Trapuzzano scored on the throw to second. Justin Bilohlavek was then hit by a pitch. Wes McCoy drove in Heinz with a single.

Atholton rebounded with four unearned runs in the bottom of the first. A couple of two-strike singles, a debated catcher's interference call, a walk, and a couple of defensive miscues put the Hawks in a hole. Atholton scored single runs in the second and fourth. Kevin Marrie sprinkled only 5 hits over the 5 full innings he worked, and Steve Cornelius looked great in the sixth, striking out the side. In addition to Wes McCoy's single in the first inning, only Dan Konapelsky and Bryan Bednarczyk managed singles for River Hill.
