Hawks rain homeruns on Wilde Lake

On a chilly, windy, drizzly April 3, River Hill won a 10-0, six inning game at Wilde Lake. Ben Trapuzzano got things started in the top of the first with an infield single, followed by Jeff Marquart reaching first when he was hit by a pitch. Brian Heinz then hit a 3-run homer over the right center field fence.

In the second, Kevin Marrie and Ben Trapuzzano drew walks, and scored on a Jeff Marquart double off the outfielder's glove. Jeff advanced to third and then scored on a wild pitch. Heinz then doubled over the right fielder's head, but was left stranded on second.

The Hawks struck again in the third when Brian Bednarczyk walked and advanced to second when Wes McCoy was hit by a pitch. Wilde Lake turned a nice double play when their third baseman fielded a hard grounder, stepped on third and threw to first. McCoy reached third on a wild pitch and scored on an infield error. With Greg Roach running at first, Dave Marquart singled, and when Marquart stole second, Greg scored from third.

In the fifth, Wes McCoy hit a towering opposite field homerun. The Hawks lengthened their lead to 10-0 in the sixth when Trapuzzano reached first on a walk, Dan Konapelsky singled, and both advanced on a ground out by Heinz. Justin Bilohlavek then walked to load the bases, and Trapuzzano scored on a wild pitch.

Kevin Marrie pitched 5 great innings, giving up no runs, and striking out several Wilde Lake batters. When Jeff Marquart moved to pitch in the sixth inning, Shawn Ward went in to left field. Jeff gave up a lead-off double, but picked the runner off at second. Dave Marquart speared a hard hit line drive for out number two, and Trapuzzano ended the game when he fielded a hard grounder to short. In addition to the impressive hitting and pitching, the River Hill infield played very well.
