River Hill defeated an improved Oakland Mills team, 14-4, on a balmy April 2. Steve Cornelius started for the Hawks and gave up 3 runs in the first as he was working on gaining control of his pitches. Steve then threw 4 shutout innings, striking out 7 over 5 innings. Ben Trapuzzano closed out the game in the sixth, yielding just 1 more run. Curt Gilliam finished the game at shortstop.
Offensively, River Hill got things started in the second inning when Justin Bilohlavek singled. Justin was out at second on a fielder's choice by Wes McCoy. McCoy went to second on a ground out by Ken Gilliam, and scored on a sharp single by Dave Marquart. Steve Cornelius walked, and on an infield error, Jeff Marquart reached first and Dave Marquart scored. A deep triple to right center by Trapuzzano scored Cornelius and Marquart. In the third, Wes McCoy doubled and scored on a Ken Gilliam single. In the fifth, Brian Heinz had a lead-off triple to center and scored on a sacrifice fly by Justin Bilohlavek. McCoy then singled, Ken Gilliam walked, and both scored on Dave Marquart's second single of the game. Marquart stole second and third, but was out trying to score on a bad throw to third.
The Hawks built up their lead to 10 runs in the sixth when Curt Gilliam, Jeff Marquart, Ben Trapuzzano, and Brian Heinz all walked. Brian Bednarczyk drove in a run with a sacrifice fly out. Bilohlavek walked and Greg Roach ran for him. Shawn Ward got an RBI on a walk. Ken Gilliam reached first on a fielder's choice. Then Dave Marquart walked. Curt Gilliam was hit by a pitch and Dan Konapelsky singled in the last run to put the Hawks up by 10 runs and this ended the game.
